1. THE FOOD
One thing that CRSSD did not disappoint on was the food. There was such a variety, and I wanted to try it all. Unfortunately my wallet and stomach didn’t allow for that, but a favorite was definitely the hand rolls from Bang Bang. I also couldn’t skip out on the acai bowls or the fan favorite of Spicy Pie. Compared to your basic festival food choices of such delicacies like hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken tenders, CRSSD went above and beyond to offer restaurant-quality food for its attendees.
2. THE VIBE
First off, the venue was gorgeous. The location went with the music and vibes perfectly. With the oddly super hot San Diego weather, being able to cool off in the fountains made a huge difference. It wasn’t until the sun was setting Sunday night that I really stopped to look around and enjoy the scenery. There was the San Diego Bay on one side where I saw silhouettes of boats and yachts in the harbor as I watched the sunset, and then on the other side was the beautiful downtown San Diego skyline. It was absolutely breathtaking.
I can definitely say that one of my favorite things about CRSSD was the fact that it was 21+ because... NO BEER GARDENS. I know I am not alone in saying that I hate beer gardens. I don’t like being stuck in a certain area just because I want a drink; it was so nice not having to deal with that at all. I believe having the age limit made a huge impact on the atmosphere of the festival. Everyone was just dancing and having a great time.
3. THE MUSIC
Lastly, the music. Let’s just say my ears were very happy after CRSSD. Just like at any festival, there were some sets that were better than others, but all of the music was good. The Ocean View Live stage was a stage completely dedicated to live acts, and I would have to say a few favorites were Hot Natured, Classixx, and ODESZA. It was super cool to see them all play a live set, rather than the typical DJ sets you would normally see.
The other two stages, City Steps and The Palms, were so close together that it was easy to switch stages and check out a lot of different artists. A definite favorite was Pleasure State, I could be biased because I am already a huge MK fan but they were awesome. Justin Martin, Danny Daze, Lee Burridge, Jamie Jones b2b Seth Troxler, and Maceo Plex were also some of the best sets of the weekend. One thing was for sure, CRSSD made sure to book top-notch music.
