Wet Electric, America’s largest pool party, took place last weekend in Tempe, AZ. Promising to be the festival’s biggest year yet, I’m here to tell you that the Tempe Turn Up was real.
This year they built a massive “floating” stage in the middle Big Surf Waterpark’s 2.5 million gallon wave pool. This meant that the normal crowd area in front of the main stage was actually under water, and on a much larger scale than anything you’d experience at even the biggest Vegas day clubs.
Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate exactly according to plan over the weekend. Hot temperatures and sunshine battled it out with clouds and even light rain throughout the day and night on both days. To my surprise though, even the low temps and hidden sunshine did not stop the party people. Attendees packed the wave pool for both Tiesto’s Saturday 7-9pm set and Dillon Francis’ Sunday 7-8pm set. They danced their faces off at every drop and splashed each other with such energy that they probably didn’t even feel the freezing cold water at all.
Big Surf Waterpark not only offers half a dozen waterslides, but also one of the largest wave pools in North America and a zip-line that zooms across the park. Wet Electric had all of this plus the massive floating main stage, a smaller secondary stage, and a Silent Disco stage. Most importantly, though, the RaverSwag Pop-Up Shop had everything that Wet attendees needed to make sure they had the best experience ever.
As would be expected for an event just a couple miles from ASU’s sprawling Tempe campus, gorgeous girls with barely anything on ran around holding hands getting more free drinks bought for them than they would ever be able to drink. The ravers were out in force too, wearing cut out booty shorts, flower crowns, fanny packs, kandi masks, and rave bras that made us so proud.
